Week 16

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely break!

ELA: In ELA this week, there will be a series of writing workshops to help improve our writing skills.

SS: Social studies we will be finishing up our Japan unit and be introduced to our unit project!

Week 15

ELA: In ELA, we will be working on our CASA curriculum and discuss what it means to be part of a community.

SS: In social studies, we will continue with Japan, and have a pretty awesome art project Thursday!

Week 14

Grades are almost due again guys! Make sure you’re studying up and turning in all your work! Also, short week this week!

ELA: We will be finishing our poetry unit this week with point of view and another socratic seminar! Don’t forget, our vocab quiz is on Thursday as well! Study, study, study!

SS: Social studies this week will finish our unit on China and begin on Japan! Tuesday we will have a review activity/game, and Wednesday we will begin our introduction to Japan. The final quiz on China will be on Thursday so PLEASE study!!! It will consist of matching, true or false, and short answers.

Week 13

ELA: We will be starting with our quiz Monday! Be sure to study up (though you already know this!) Testing will make classes a little strange this week, but we will be continuing with poetry and descriptive language.

SS: We will be continuing with China and philosophies, as well as trade and Buddhism.

Week 12

ELA: Don’t forget, our essay is due MONDAY, which means TOMORROW! (Unless you have spoken to me otherwise). We will be beginning our poetry unit this week! So be prepared to learn some awesome elements of poetry Monday and Tuesday, and begin reading one of my favorites Wednesday. We will work on writing our own poem Friday, and have a surprise activity to accompany it.

SS: In social studies, we will continue our unit on Asian Civilizations. Our quiz on Wednesday will cover the Mongols, Ottoman Empire, and the first part of ancient China. So study up! We will have some fun group activities to help us learn about various Chinese philosophies Thursday and Friday, and you will get to show us your acting skills!

Week 11

Hello there!

Week 11 is here, and it’s going to be a strange one. Remember that Monday and Thursday are half-days, and Friday there’s no school due to parent conferences. This means we need to be extra focused this week!

ELA: We will be continuing the essays we started last week, they will be due next MONDAY!

SS: We will have a brief introduction to China, and be completing some activities that will help us master the material.

Week 7

Here we go week 7!!

ELA: We will finish The Giver on Monday!!!! We will then use our knowledge of themes and elements of the story to create a 5 paragraph argumentative essay, which is DUE ON FRIDAY! We will have time to write and edit in class, though the final draft must be written at home. We will also watch some more of the movie on Friday and compare and contrast the film adaptation to the novel.

SS: In Social Studies, we begin out next unit….Africa! This will be a shorter unit than Rome, and we will start with geography and key terms, which we will have a quiz on this Friday, so study up!

7.4 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the sub-Saharan civilizations of Ghana and Mali in Medieval Africa.

Week 6

ELA: For ELA we will be continuing with The Giver, as well as strengthening our argumentative writing skills, in relation to themes in the novel.

SS: In Social Studies, we will be wrapping up our unit on Rome, which means, there will be a unit exam on Friday. PLEASE STUDY FOR THE EXAM! We will be creating study guides that you may use on the test, but other notes will NOT be allowed.

Week 5

And the weeks go on! Welcome to week 5!

ELA: We will continue to read The Giver this week, as well as engage in some more argumentative writing. We will also have a short vocabulary quiz on Friday, so study up!

SS: For Social Studies we will be continuing with the spilt of the Roman Empire. We will start with a quiz on Tuesday, followed by various activities and thinking maps.

ELA: We will continue reading The Giver up to chapter ten, and it’s going to start getting really good! Make sure you’re here so you don’t miss it! We’ll be discussing various elements, rules, and memories.
